The foundation separates three needs: understanding an existing file, letting a user correct their data, then integrating validated rows into a business model. This separation avoids presenting a generic parser as a universal importer.

Analyze an Excel workbook before migrating it

Callimaque inspects .xlsx files and produces a JSON dump and a Markdown report that agents and developers can use. The analysis covers:

  • visible, hidden, and veryHidden sheets;
  • cells, types, values, and formulas;
  • validation and conditional formatting;
  • merged ranges and defined names;
  • tabular blocks and inferred columns;
  • dependencies between sheets.

This material helps you understand a business Excel tool, recover its rules, design the future data model, and prepare the mapping. It does not automatically load the data into the application.

.xlsm files are rejected: macros must be removed or analyzed separately. A complex workbook can also depend on calculations, connections, or objects that a browser-based reader does not recalculate.

Extend analysis to other formats

The same tooling covers several common sources:

  • CSV: dialect, encoding, columns, and inferred types;
  • DOCX: text, metadata, comments, and tracked changes;
  • PDF: text and images;
  • PPTX: slides, notes, and metadata.

The report speeds up design. The team then defines business rules, deduplication, permissions, error handling, and the recovery strategy.

Correct data in a grid before submission

The data-sheet component accepts text, number, date, time, select, and boolean cells. It handles keyboard navigation, rectangular pasting from Excel, inline errors, and read-only cells.

A typical import workflow follows these steps:

  1. read CSV or tab-delimited text;
  2. detect commas, semicolons, or tabs;
  3. present rows in the grid;
  4. flag invalid values;
  5. let the user correct them;
  6. send only the validated batch to the API.

The grid lets users correct flagged values before submitting the validated batch. The displayed data is fictitious.

Read and deliver files

The document viewer can display text, JSON, CSV, images, PDF, and DOCX. Heavy renderers are loaded on demand. A preview slot lets an application add a specific format, including XLSX.

Studio has an XLSX viewer specific to its Documents screen. It opens CSV and XLSX with SheetJS and converts sheets into tabular data. This is a real capability but remains specific to Studio: it is not presented as a generic component automatically installed on every screen.

Export without surprising users

The delimited-data primitive can produce exports compatible with French Excel conventions: semicolons, CRLF line endings, and a UTF-8 BOM. The application chooses the columns, labels, date format, and allowed values.

For a regulatory or contractual export, a file test complements the interface test: encoding, column order, separator, quoting, row count, and reimport of the result.

Store and transfer

The foundation includes an S3 client, presigned URLs, and upload components with progress, cancellation, and retry. The application remains responsible for quotas, antivirus scanning, retention, permissions, and the actual storage location.
