Install the Maleus widget (external projects only)

Maleus projects ship the widget by default. If you connected an existing external codebase, copy the snippet from Settings to wire the widget yourself.

On this page

The Maleus widget is the tracing overlay that captures app reviews. Whether you need to install it depends on the type of project.

Project typeWidget status
Maleus projectWidget is injected automatically. Nothing to install.
External projectWidget is opt-in. Copy the snippet from Settings into your codebase.

If your project was created from scratch in Maleus, you can skip this article. The widget is already there. Open App Reviews to see what users submit.

External projects: get the snippet

  1. Open the project, then Settings.
  2. In the sidebar's Settings drill, pick Maleus SDK.
  3. Step 1 of the page shows the snippet. Click Copy.

If the snippet still contains <YOUR_APP_API_KEY>, the project hasn't generated a key yet. Click Generate app API key in the sidebar of the same page. The key is masked on screen, but Copy pastes the real value into your clipboard.

Wire the snippet into your codebase

Drop the snippet inside <head> or right before </body>. The exact spot depends on your stack:

  • Plain HTML / static site: anywhere in <head>.
  • SPA: load it before your router so navigations are captured.
  • Server-rendered framework: include it in your root layout.

Verify the install

The same Settings page has a Step 2 / Verify installation card. Once your app loads the widget at least once, it flips from Waiting for first review to Widget detected with a Live badge. The Check again button forces a re-check.

What gets submitted

When someone interacts with the widget, the capture contains:

  • A screenshot or DOM snapshot of the current view.
  • Any recent errors observed in the page.
  • The note or comment they typed.
  • The version identifier the build was tagged with (when available).

Everything lands in App Reviews, with the version pre-filled. Reviews captured from a build that did not tag a version show up as Unlinked.

Keep the widget enabled on staging. It's where you'll catch the most actionable feedback before promoting to production.

Regenerate the API key

If you ever need to rotate the key, the sidebar of the same Settings page has a Regenerate key action. A confirm dialog warns you that the previous key stops working as soon as you confirm.
